The seventh round of the 2019 Slideways Junior Sprint Series hit Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama over the weekend, with strong fields in both Juniors (aged 12-15) and Cadets (aged 7-11) turning on some brilliant racing.
Contested on the reverse track direction, the format for both classes featured a short-sharp qualifying session prior to three ten-minute-long races, with the chook lotto random invert setting the grid for race two, with combined points from all sessions determining the overall podium for the event.
Juniors
A wild qualifying session set the tone for the day, with Olivia Herbison claiming the pole position with a time of 40.017sec, ahead of Chaad Hewitt, Elliot Cleary, Jack Simson, Ethan Bryson, Jude Livermore, Leo Ninness, Jordyn Durrington, Liam Hayward, Brayden Hill, Luc Jacobsen, Isaac Tanioria and Baily Callaghan.
The 13-lap opener saw Hewitt (fastest lap: 39.215sec) come through for the win from Cleary, Herbison, Stimson, Bryson, Livermore, Ninness, Durrington, Hill, Jacobsen, Hayward, Tanioria and Callaghan.
Herbison hit back with victory in race two, ahead of the flying Hewitt (fastest lap: 39.289sec) by only 0.186sec, then Cleary, Stimson, Bryson, Livermore, Jacobsen, Ninness, Hill, Durrington, Hayward, Callaghan and Tanioria.
The battle in the finale went right down to the wire, with Herbison chased all the way to the finish by Hewitt, with the fastest laps of the top two a 39.333sec versus a 39.393sec, while the entire top-six all set times within the 39sec bracket.
Cleary was third from Stimson, Bryson, Livermore, Ninness, Jacobsen, Durrington, Callaghan, Hill, Hayward and Tanioria.
In the overall points for the day it was Herbison from Hewitt and Cleary, fourth placed Stimson picked up the encouragement award, while the best and fairest points went to Stimson, Tanioria and Hewitt.

Cadets
Setting the tone for the morning was qualifying, with Zachary Naylor (46.833sec) on pole from Luke Wilson, Daniel Sullivan, Brock Helm, Dylan Kammerlocher, Jordi Slater, Ellie Wilson, Annabel Kennedy and Aiden Thompson.
In the opener it was Naylor from Luke Wilson by 0.224sec, then Sullivan, Helm, Ellie Wilson, Kammerlocher, Slater, Kennedy and Thomspson.
The best lap times saw Naylor set a 46.233sec from Slater (46.239sec) and Luke Wilson (46.273sec).
Ellie Wilson broke through for her first win in race two from her cousin Luke (fastest lap: 46.289sec), then Sullivan, Naylor, Helm, Slater, Kammerlocher, Kennedy and Thompson.
For the final it was Naylor (fastest lap: 46.207sec) chased to the win by Luke Wilson with 0.183sec margin at the chequered flag.
Third was Sullivan ahead of Helm, Ellie Wilson, Kammerlocher, Slater, Kennedy and Thomspon.
The overall podium for the day featured Naylor from Luke Wilson and Sullivan, while the best and fairest points went to Naylor, Ellie Wilson and Kennedy.
