World Records Tumble Again as French Invade Pimpama

Lightning lap times, close racing and a debut race winner highlighted the seventh round of the Slideways Sprint Race Series and the Slideways Ladies Sprint Cup at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama.

Some highlights of the evening were Jackson Faulkner’s demolition of the previous reverse track lap record, French visitor Lucie Loiselet claiming the Ladies portion of the evening on debut, while Chloe Buck also set some sensationally quick lap times.

Like all Slideways sprint format events, the grid for the first race was determined by random draw, which was inverted for the second, with the line-up for the third and final race sorted by overall points.

Both the Slideways Sprint Racing Series and the Slideways Ladies Sprint Cup return on Wednesday September 5th, with the event to run on the normal track direction.

In other upcoming events, September 28 will see the Big One, the six hour Enduro event on the reverse track direction, with full details of the exciting event to be announced in the coming days.

Meanwhile the Slideways Junior Racing Series returns on Sunday August 19th, with races for Cadets (aged 7-11 years old) and Juniors (aged 12-15 years old).

All early bird entries for Slideways Race Events are eligible to receive a free practice race, with full details available on the Gold Coast Go Kart Race Events web page.

Don’t forget, the Slideways Karting Academy offers personalised tuition, tailored to your individual needs, improving lap times and race craft.

Slideways Sprint Racing Series

The racing at the front of the field for the opening race set the stage for the evening of competition, with Michael Seeto just holding out Jackson Faulkner in a thriller.

After 12 circuits, only 0.159sec split the pair on the circuit, with Seeto’s 39.810sec just bettering Faulkner’s 39.840sec in terms of quick lap times.

Six seconds off the leaders at the finish was French visitor Kevin Belin, leading home a train of karts including Gavin Faulkner, Jacques Goodman, Phil Edwards and Christian Bishop.

Nathan Deighton claimed position eight, from Scott Shaw, Jesus Nunez, Clayton Hydes and Liam Hydes.

Race two saw a reversal in fortunes for Liam Hydes, who was pushed all the way to the chequered flag by Bishop, with the final margin between the duo being 1.475sec.

Jackson Faulkner scythed through the field to claim third, from Edwards, while Clayton Hydes ran a smart race to hold off a conga line of racers, namely Goodman, Shaw, Seeto and Gavin Faulkner.

Tenth home was Deighton from Bellin and Nunez, with Seeto setting a cracking pace to claim the fastest lap of the race with a 39.647sec.

The Jackson Faulkner smackdown continued in the final, with a 6.708sec victory over Seeto, with his race stats providing for impressive reading: a new reverse direction lap record with a 38.938sec time, and an average lap time over 12 laps of 39.275sec.

In fact, the cool night air and the competition on track saw the top-nine finishers in the race set times under the 40sec mark.

In third place was Bishop, who edged out Edwards, then Gavin Faulkner, Bellin, Goodman, Shaw, Liam Hydes, Clayton Hydes, Deighton and Nunez.

The overall podium for the night mirrored the final race result, with Jackson Faulkner on top from Seeto and Bishop, with Faulkner named the Best & Fairest, while Edwards claimed the Encouragement Award.

Slideways Ladies Sprint Cup

First time Slideways Go Karting World starter Lucie Loiselet didn’t waste her pole position in claiming the opening Ladies Sprint race for the evening, leading home Tracey Overell and Olivia Herbison in an action-packed encounter.

Amanda Rohde was next home from newcomer Amy Wedd, then Chloe Herbison, Chloe Buck, then other first-time starters in Bianca Williams and Christine Hart.

Fastest on track in the opener was Olivia Herbison with a swift 40.001sec lap time.

Buck turned the tables in the second encounter, claiming a 5.693sec victory from Rohde, who worked hard to hold out Olivia Herbison.

Loiselet was fourth, ahead of Wedd, Overell, Chloe Herbison, Williams and Hart, with Buck bettering her previous record with an incredible 39.952sec time, which would put her in good stead in any field.

For the finale, it was Loiselet who managed to just hold out Olivia Herbison for the duration, with Rohde coming home in third.

Next was Wedd, capping a top first up event, then Buck, Overell, Chloe Herbison, Williams and Hart.

Buck was once again the fastest on circuit with a 40.445sec time, although the top seven finishers were all within 0.2sec of the benchmark time.

Loiselet stood atop the overall podium from Olivia Herbison and Rohde, with Webb claiming the Best & Fairest, while Williams won the Encouragement Award.
