Matt Simmons, the 2015 GT Academy International Champion, recently took time out from his busy racing schedule to participate in the third round of the Slideways Go Karting World Enduro Series.

Returning to Australia following a season aboard the mighty Nissan GT-R GT3 in the Blancpain Endurance GT3 Series, Simmons raced on legendary circuits such as Monza, Silverstone, Paul Ricard, Spa and the Nurburgring.

For the Enduro Series round, Simmons teamed up with 2015 GT Academy International Finalist Keishi Ayukai, and Speedcafe.com journalist Stefan Bartholomaeus.

“It’s good to be back home, it’s been a pretty crazy year,” said Simmons.

“You don’t really realise where you’ve been until the season is over, and you sit back and think about the incredible tracks that you’ve been at.

“It’s been a challenging year, but I’ve enjoyed every moment.

“It’s nice to be home now, reflect a bit on it with friends and family, it gives us a chance to come out an enjoy some karting.

“It’s always good to get out and unwind.

“For me, I still get a buzz out of racing anything.

“Karting on the weekends is what I did as a kid, and I still get a kick out of doing it.

“It’s all about fun now, have some fun with my mates, and it’s still training.”

The next phase of Simmons’ adventure kicks off this weekend in New Zealand, with the Hampton Downs 101 round of the Australian GT Championship, followed two weeks later with a similar event at Highlands Motorsport Park.

Simmons is teaming up with Nissan Supercars ace Michael Caruso aboard the GT-R GT3 that won the 2015 Bathurst 12 Hour.

“By the mid year I was kind of thinking that the Nurburgring was it, I was coming home for the dreaded wait to see what was coming up next year, but now I get to race at home, it’s not Australia though, it’s over in New Zealand,” said Simmons.

“They will be two massive events in the GT-R GT3, I’ve never been there before, and I’m massively excited.

“I’m excited to be a part of it, and I’m looking to end the year on a high.”

The next round of the Slideways Go Karting World Enduro Series kicks off on November 6, with limit positions remaining available on the starting grid. Contact the venue today to secure your place in the field.
